The term vanity is sometimes used as a synonym for the sink itself. In everyday speech, however, it is more likely to be understood as a unit made up of the sink and vanity unit together. Historically, this combination of items was called a vanity table and it consisted of a literal "table" standing on four legs with a sink or washbasin simply placed on top of it. So that connection is easy to make. These days there are more and more floating designs "without feet." When we refer to a vanity or a vanity unit below, we mean the combination of ceramic washbasin and the underlying furniture that supports it. A vanity as a combination of sink and furniture has many advantages. Thanks to this practical combination, depending on the type, only a single piece of furniture has to be installed and you can benefit from all the advantages. The plumbing connections are concealed and cleaning products and other items can be easily stowed away.
With a vanity unit as a complete set, you don't have to pay attention to the dimensions of an existing bathroom vanity unit or the height of the existing sink. The vanity unit and the sink itself match each other in terms of appearance, so the vanity unit can be chosen to match the rest of the bathroom furniture and the tiles . A new vanity can work especially well in cases where only some of the bathroom fixtures are being replaced as well as in complete remodels. You can make the washing area into a central design element in your new or remodeled bathroom.
Vanities: Design, Materials and Versions
Vanities are available in different designs and materials. It's best to choose the design to blend in with the overall look of the bathroom. The choice of material depends entirely on personal taste and the demands placed on the material. The different versions can also be customized to individual needs.
Vanity Design:
You can choose from among many different looks for your vanity. The basic questions to ask yourself include the following: Do you prefer light or dark? A wood finish, matte or high gloss? A vanity with a wood look or a vanity in dark colors really comes into its own against a background of light tiles. A vanity in black, for example, can make a bold statement because of the contrast. If the cabinet portion of the vanity is designed in white or in light wood tones, it has the effect of making the room seem more open and friendly. This little trick can be really effective, especially in small bathrooms and in bathrooms without any windows.
Vanity materials:
Two purely practical considerations are especially important when designing your bathroom: hygiene and durability. That is why bathroom vanities - and sinks in particular - use sanitary ceramics as the most common material. This material is easy to clean so you can always keep it in top hygienic shape. We continually develop our sanitary ceramics, one of the results being that we are able to manufacture many of our sinks from DuraCeram®. The Duravit formula makes it possible to create highly accurate dimensions and extremely thin walls. Our Duravit bathroom furniture is suitable for damp areas because it is optimally protected against high humidity and splashing water. Our bathroom furniture doesn't have any open edges in order to guarantee this. Another quality feature is the fact that 100% of our bathroom furniture is made in Germany.
You have the option of choosing either a vanity with an integrated ceramic sink or a vanity with a countertop sink for your bathroom. This decision can be made according to your needs and taste. The underside of a countertop sink is always polished so that it can be placed on or installed in the furniture with precision. One of the major advantages of a bathroom vanity unit and sink is the additional storage space next to the sink on the countertop. One advantage of a vanity with a sink integrated into its ceramic countertop is that the surfaces are easier to clean since the sink and the countertop are seamless. Choosing a vanity unit with a countertop sink can make a bold statement in your bathroom.
2. A vanity with freestanding installation or a vanity that is wall-mounted:
Wall-mounted vanities have an elegant look and have the advantage of freeing up the floor space underneath for easy cleaning. You will also find freestanding vanities with feet in our product range. For example, this version is equipped with a freestanding metal console countertop with the supporting structure under the sink being open. A closed vanity unit with feet, on the other hand, makes it even easier to keep your bathroom looking tidy.
Double Sink Vanity - a Special Version
There's a lot going on in the bathroom in the mornings and it's not unusual for someone to have to wait. A double vanity can be extremely useful in these situations. This furniture is a combination of a double sink and a vanity unit. This means that the two washing areas can be used at the same time so nobody has to get in the way of the morning routine. Double vanities can either be equipped with a single large washbasin or two separate ones. This practical solution will make everyone's morning routine much easier in a multi-person household.
When choosing one of our vanities, it is important to pay attention to the type of ceramic sink. Choosing a countertop sink will make your vanity look like a typical table in appearance. To achieve this look, combine a polished sink with a vanity unit countertop. The bottom of a countertop sink is polished so it can be placed on or embedded in the furniture underneath with precision. The vanity unit countertop can be expanded to include a base cabinet so the furniture combination ends up looking like a single cabinet unit. We use the terms vanity unit countertop and console countertop synonymously for ease of understanding; this is not unusual in the context of vanities. Similar countertops are used on both vanities and consoles.
Wall-mounted vanities:
A combination of sink (polished) and vanity unit countertop and an optional vanity unit to support it. A wall-mounted vanity can also consist of a sink (unpolished) and a matching base.
Does a table need to have legs? Vanity units only need to have feet; make a note of the different versions and models. A freestanding vanity can really complete your bathroom ensemble.
A cabinet with a built-in ceramic sink can also be an ideal way to get that table look. Vanities with a built-in sink have the ceramic sink built right into the cabinet so that the furniture is what you see on the sides of the sink and the cabinet and sink are merged into a single unit.
Vanities with semi-recessed sinks:
This version is especially eye-catching. The top of the ceramic sink sticks up from the vanity cabinet, creating an unusual, modern look.
c-bonded vanities:
Our innovative and patented c-bonded technology is a very special type of ceramics used in connection with vanity base cabinets. The components are processed with millimeter precision in a complex process and attached to one another almost seamlessly. What is special about this process is that only the vanity cabinet is visible from the sides. When you look at it from above, however, only the sink can be seen. The ceramic sink and base cabinet form a single perfect unit.
c-shaped vanities:
Our vanities with c-shaped technology are as elegant as they are innovative. The components in this series are also precisely processed, creating a parallel shape without any overhangs or recesses. The supporting structure of the vanity begins exactly where the outer edge of the ceramic sink ends. As with the c-bonded technology, the ceramics and the cabinet also form a single unit and are only available as a set.
