DuroCast®: a Sustainable Material That Meets the Highest Design Standards
Sustainable production, extreme durability,
high-quality design – our DuroCast®
mineral composite material encompasses all of these qualities. This non-slip
material is perfect for use in the bathroom, also because it is extremely easy
to clean. Four different versions make it possible for DuroCast® to meet a wide range of
requirements. DuroCast®
also meets a wide range of aesthetic requirements through the use of a colored
gel-coat finish or, in the case of DuroCast® Plus,
even the carrier material is the same, solid color.
DuroCast® Plus – Long-Lasting Bathroom Classics
DuroCast® Plus is produced using a
single material. This gives the completely white ceramic material an extremely
uniform look. If the durable material does end up showing any signs of use,
they are extremely easy to remove without leaving any trace behind. The matte,
velvety soft finish is pleasantly warm and gentle to the touch.
Series with DuroCast® Plus
The
unique feeling and uniform appearance of DuroCast® Plus finishes make them ideal
for bathtubs. The tubs in the Cape Cod and Luv series, as well as
the freestanding
bathtubs and back-to-wall versions in the Aurena and Qatego series, are all made
of DuroCast® Plus – guaranteeing an
extremely comfortable and relaxing bath.
DuroCast® Smooth – Versatile Variety
With its outer gel coat, DuroCast® Smooth has a durable, easy-to-clean, and UV-resistant finish that
makes a big impression with its outstanding material properties in addition to
the wide range of finish options. The gel coat makes it possible to create a
variety of color patterns and unusual textures – with a choice of glossy or
matte finish.
Series with DuroCast® Smooth
The versatility of DuroCast® Smooth is especially evident in the colored toilets found in the Millio series. Using this
material allows you to design your entire bathroom in a single color. This
lightweight material is especially useful for items like the built-in bathtub
in the Aurena series.
DuroCast® UltraResist – Extreme Durability
DuroCast® UltraResist gets its flawless
finish from our double varnishing process. This also gives the material a
number of very advantageous properties for use in the bathroom: Thanks to its
non-porous surface, DuroCast®
UltraResist is easy to
clean and extremely resistant to scratches. It even prevents dirt from building
up in the first place. The extremely durable material even exceeds the
requirements for material impact strength.
Series with DuroCast® UltraResist
With
the unique durability of DuroCast® UltraResist,
the sinks in the Sivida and Vitrium series are sure to
impress. In the Bento Starck Box series, the double sink is also made from
this material, as are the freestanding bathtubs in the D-Neo series. The shower tray from the Stonetto series is especially
noteworthy – not only because of its stone look, but also because it is
extremely durable since it is made from DuroCast® UltraResist.
DuroCast® Nature – Greater Sustainability
DuroCast® Nature is even more
sustainable than the other materials. That's because this material is
completely recyclable. It's also extremely lightweight, but doesn't sacrifice
on durability – the easy-to-clean gel coat guarantees this. Not only is it
pleasant to the touch, but the non-porous surface also creates an elegant
finish that opens up a wide range of bathroom design possibilities thanks to
the modern colors available.
The material properties of DuroCast® Nature also make it extremely
easy to install: Shower trays, for example, can be adjusted during installation
on-site without any extra effort, and they can be shortened side-to-side by up
to about 4 inches (100 mm). They also don't weigh much, which makes them easier
to handle and reduces transport-related CO₂
emissions.
Series with DuroCast® Nature
The shower tray from the Sustano series is completely recyclable thanks to DuroCast® Nature. In addition, because the
material can be cut to size, it can be supplied in a wide range of dimensions
and adjusted to your individual needs.
The Sustainable Production Process of DuroCast®
DuroCast® saves CO₂ in comparison to conventional ceramics. The
reason for this is the lower drying temperature, which differs from
energy-intensive ceramic production.
With DuroCast®, the raw materials used are mixed automatically and
then prepared for casting. This creates a homogeneous casting compound that is
then poured into the respective molds. In the case of DuroCast® Plus, UltraResist, and Smooth, the material
primarily consists of natural minerals with resin used as a binding agent. DuroCast® Nature, on the other hand,
consists of polyurethane mixed with marble powder.
The casting process
is followed by two drying stages: The liquid casting compound is cured in the
first step, hardening in the mold in a heat chamber. In the second step, the
product is removed from the mold and tempered to reduce stress on a separate
rotating bearing in a furnace at temperatures of up to 176°F (80°C). The final
curing of the material takes place during this phase. Once they've cooled, the
products are sent to the polishing booth for the finishing touches.
