Sanitary acrylic is a thermoplastic that has been on the market since the 1970s. Its has an impressively appealing look thanks to its high-gloss finish and its smooth, non-porous surface is also very pleasant to the touch. When the room temperature is low, sanitary acrylic still feels pleasantly warm to the touch.

In addition, acrylic bathtubs are abrasion-resistant and are particularly robust. Thanks to the soft sheen of the finish - in combination with our timeless Duravit designs - our acrylic bathtubs will fit harmoniously into any bathroom interior.

Tip: If small irregularities develop over time as a result of dirt and other deposits, they can be repaired using an acrylic care set. These care sets allow you to polish the acrylic bathtub material so the finish continues to keep its original shine.

Acrylic bathtubs are resistant to heavy shocks and impacts. Small scratches can be sanded out, filled and polished away with the help of an acrylic tub repair kit.

7. UV resistance

The material is resistant to UV radiation. This means that exposure to the sun won't affect the color of the material.

Caring for acrylic bathtubs

If properly cared for, acrylic bathtubs can be used for up to 50 years. That's why proper care is extremely important; it ensures that you can enjoy your acrylic bathtub for years to come. One of the practical things about it is that the material itself is resistant to dirt. The smooth and non-porous finish is extremely hygienic and easy to care for. In order to clean acrylic bathtubs, any deposits that start to develop should be removed regularly so your tub retains that silky sheen. All it takes is a simple wipe-down with a soft cloth or sponge and a mild cleaning agent.

Installing an acrylic bathtub

Bathtub installation requires additional accessories and the installation should always be carried out by a qualified professional. This also holds true for acrylic bathtubs.
Either bathtub support legs or a supporting frame can be used for installation. Bathtub supporting frames also have the advantage that you can attach tiles directly to them and you don't have to create another separate tiling surface.
Support legs, on the other hand, are easier to adjust in terms of height and are attached to the tub from below. Bathtubs also need to be supported against the wall using a bathtub anchor.

Many of our Duravit built-in bathtubs are also optionally available with matching bath panels. Note: Panels must be ordered separately like any other accessory.

How are Duravit acrylic bathtubs manufactured?

Duravit uses sanitary acrylic to produce the acrylic sheets we use to manufacture our acrylic bathtubs. This is produced as a suspension that is poured in a liquid state between two glass plates. Acrylic sheets have a non-porous, dimensionally stable and high-gloss finish that is pleasant on the eyes and to the touch, making them the highlight of any bathroom design. Manufacturing relies on the deep-drawing process to produce our acrylic bathtubs from sanitary acrylic.

1. Step: Shaping the acrylic sheet

First, a large acrylic sheet is heated to about 355°F (180°C) and shaped into an acrylic bathtub using the tried-and-true deep-drawing process.

2. Step: Stabilization

After cooling and curing, the material needs to be reinforced with wood and fiberglass. These fibers are sprayed on the backside of the acrylic bathtub along with a liquid synthetic resin, providing stability and the necessary elasticity.

3. Step: Manual post-processing

The cured acrylic bathtub is cut to size and the excess material is removed. All the necessary holes, such as those for the drain and overflow, are also drilled at this point.

4. Step: Quality control

Finally, the acrylic bathtub is carefully inspected by our quality specialists. Once it passes quality control, it is proceeds to the shipping department.
