DuraCeram® – an Elegant Material for Exceptional Design

Duravit is using the material of the future today: it's called DuraCeram®. Unlike conventional bathroom ceramics, DuraCeram® allows for extremely thin walls without compromising on strength or durability. This material is both sustainable and easy to care for, while also making previously unimaginable bathroom design possibilities a reality.

The thin walls of DuraCeram® items make new shapes possible for your bathroom design. The extreme dimensional accuracy of the thin material makes it possible to align the ceramics and bathroom furniture with extreme precision. This allows us to create precise combinations as a single unit, especially when combined with Duravit's c-bonded & c-shaped technologies. But the ceramics made from DuraCeram® are just as impressive when used on their own – for example, the thin-walled sinks from series such as Luv or Cape Cod really stand out with their delicate design and characteristic shapes.

Despite its delicate appearance, DuraCeram® isn't lacking when it comes to durability. The material is resistant to both heat and UV rays, and the hygienically smooth finishing glaze is resistant against abrasion and scratches, and it's also easy to clean. With our WonderGliss finish baked into the finish, your sink will stay clean and beautiful for a long time to come. Residues such as lime and dirt are easy to rinse off the smooth finish using nothing but water. Because the material uses fewer raw materials, less energy is needed to produce it, which means lower CO2 emissions in the production process. Another benefit is that the weight of the final product is reduced.

DuraCeram® is an innovative material that represents a new development in bathroom ceramics. By and large, it uses the same raw materials (clay, kaolin, quartz, feldspar) and the same manufacturing process as bathroom ceramics, but it uses a different recipe. DuraCeram® is cast in plaster or plastic molds. Subsequent processing, such as drilling faucet holes, has to be done manually. The glaze consists of quartz, chalk, feldspar, and the mineral rock called dolomite. The glaze is applied by hand or by a glazing robot, depending on the model. The material's extremely high temperature resistance allows it to be fired at a temperature of about 2,368°F (1,280°C).
