Rimless Toilets With Innovative Flushing Technology

Rimless toilets are especially easy to care for because – as their name suggests – they don't have a rim, which is usually difficult to clean. Instead, they have an open and easily accessible edge. Bacteria and deposits of limescale and other particles are a thing of the past with rimless toilets from Duravit. The reason behind this is our innovative water flow technology, which results in a perfectly hygienic flush even when you press the smaller flush button on the toilet flush plate. The fields of fluid dynamics, geometry and design come together here to guarantee an efficient and powerful flow of water with every flush. With our continually growing variety of models in the many available series, not to mention the many advantages that a Duravit rimless toilet brings with it, a rimless toilet is a must-have in every bathroom.

What is a Rimless Toilet?

A rimless toilet is exactly what the name implies: a toilet bowl that doesn't have a rim. But you can always expect much more from us. Rimless toilets completely do away with that hard-to-reach area just under the edge of the toilet bowl. This is also known as the toilet rim, and it's a standard part of most conventional toilets. Our rimless toilets, which you can always recognize by the name Duravit Rimless®, are particularly impressive because bacteria and dirt don't stand a chance against them. This hygienic advantage means that rimless toilets reduce your chances of coming into contact with harmful bacteria.

How Does a Rimless Toilet Work?

Toilets with a flushing rim hardly differ from rimless toilets in terms of how they function. The only thing that is different is the way they are built. In conventional toilets, water is released from under the rim when they are flushed. The flushing rim serves to prevent the water from splashing out. However, thanks to newly developed flushing technologies, it isn't necessary to rely on a rim for this purpose any more. The flushing rim found on most conventional toilets presents an ideal surface area for bacteria and dirt to accumulate.

In Duravit Rimless® toilets, water is instead directed up to the rim of the toilet without ever overflowing thanks to the effective and powerful water flow. The entire surface is rinsed with water with every flush, even with small amounts of water, and cleans all of the waste in the process for maximum hygiene and cleanliness. The flushing mechanism in toilets equipped with our special HygieneFlush technology consists of two offset openings that create a powerful, rotating flush that will never result in splashing.

Our rimless toilets can also be finished with different ceramic glazes. If you go with a Duravit Rimless® toilet, for example, you can choose between our innovative HygieneGlaze and the WonderGliss coating. The latter is available for all series except D-Code and that also includes bidets, sinks and urinals. WonderGliss is water-repellent, which makes it extremely easy to care for since no stubborn residues can stick to it, while HygieneGlaze also has antibacterial properties. The two different ceramic glazes cannot be combined. In the event that your rimless toilet nevertheless ends up needing to be cleaned, removing limescale and other particles is easy using a mild citric acid-based cleaner, warm water and a soft, clean cloth.

1. Easy to care for

Rimless toilets are much easier to keep clean since the toilet bowl doesn't have a rim. The water reliably rinses the entire surface, which helps prevent limescale from forming under the flushing rim. In addition, only mild cleaning agents are necessary since the rinsing technology prevents stubborn dirt from accumulating. With the additional option of Duravit's water-repellent ceramic glaze, WonderGliss, limescale and other particles can't stick to the smooth ceramic.

2. Hygienic

The improved hygiene is one of the most important advantages of Duravit's rimless toilets. The rimless toilet bowl reduces bacteria and thus keeps harmful pathogens to a minimum. With Duravit Rimless® toilets, accumulation of germs and other deposits are a thing of the past because the innovative flushing technology simply flushes them away. The optionally available HygieneGlaze ceramic glaze also inhibits bacterial growth effectively and especially quickly - for an unprecedented standard of hygiene.

3. Environmentally friendly

The innovative, state-of-the-art flushing technology ensures maximum flushing performance with minimum water consumption. Compared to other models, rimless toilets only need between 0.8 and 1.2 gallons (3 to 4.5 liters) per flush instead of up to 1.6 gallons (6 liters), so they are very economical. In addition, you don't have to pollute the environment with aggressive cleaning agents, since rimless toilet bowls can be cleaned using only mild cleaners.

4. Aesthetic

Simple, timeless, elegant: Not only the exterior design, but also the interior of rimless toilets really catches your eye. Whether to go with a floor-standing rimless toilet or a wall-hung rimless toilet depends on the architectural conditions and your individual preferences. Both types have their merits. In the case of a wall-hung rimless toilet, as with our wall-hung toilets with a flushing rim, the installation height can be individually customized and it's easy to clean the floor under a wall-hung rimless toilet.

By the way: In the SBZ trade journal's practical testing of rimless toilets, Duravit Rimless® received the top score at 1.9, as well as the best average score for all companies producing sanitary ceramics at 2.08. A total of six Duravit Rimless® toilets were tested, none of which received a score lower than 2.22. This shows that, as a designer bathroom supplier, we also keep our brand promise when it comes to toilets.
