Walk-in Showers

Walk-in showers can generally be installed in one of two ways:

A walk-in shower tray can be embedded in the floor and flush with it. Duravit offers different sizes of shower trays so that each person's individual needs and preferences can be met and the existing structural conditions can be accommodated. Floor-level showers with a shower tray can also be retrofitted during a remodel under certain conditions. Alternatively, there is also the option of installing a floor-level shower using a floor element that can be tiled and which has a drain. Because it has a slight slope, the water runs to the center drain. Another alternative for a shower enclosure without a shower tray is to install a sloping floor that directs water to a channel or wall drain. Tiling is a good solution for people who want their bathroom to have a uniform appearance and want a seamless transition from wall to floor for a beautiful overall design.

Compared to tiled floor elements with a central floor drain and sloping floors with a shower channel or a wall drain, floor-level shower trays have the advantage of being very easy to clean and to install. The reason for this is that they don't have any joints, where dirt tends to accumulate, and this makes them much easier to seal in comparison. Depending on the material, floor-level shower trays also have a comparatively warmer feel and not only ensure a more pleasant sensation against your skin than simple tiles, but also provide a sure footing without the risk of slipping. Walk-in showers without any glass or other splash guards work better in larger bathrooms because of the space required. This is because certain minimum distances should be maintained between them and other nearby bathroom elements like the bathtub, the vanity or the bidet.

Walk-in showers with a glass wall or another type of splash guard take up less space and are the much more frequently used design. Which in turn means that walk-in showers can also work even in a small bathroom. The side walls naturally help to contain any splashing water. Alternatively, walk-in showers can also be installed with a pony wall or a wall that is framed all the way to the ceiling. This type of installation is not as common but one of the advantages it provides is additional privacy protection.
