Walk-in Showers - A Comfortable Highlight in Any Bathroom
A floor-level or walk-in shower is an open shower that is curbless, level with the bathroom floor. This is not just a design highlight but also a great solution for accessible bathrooms. This type of design does away with tripping hazards so anyone can use a walk-in shower, safely and comfortably. Bathrooms with walk-in showers also have a pleasantly open feeling. This is because walk-in shower enclosures are open on one or more sides. Existing partition walls are also often made of glass, but walls for walk-in showers can also be made of masonry or tiled. This makes a walk-in shower a great design option for your bathroom - it can make a great impression!
Easy to Enter Walk-in Showers
Floor-to-ceiling shower trays require sufficient space so there is enough room to move around when showering. Thanks to their size and how easy they are to get in and out of, walk-in showers are absolutely ideal for anyone who appreciates not only good design, but also comfort and safety. Not only that, but walk-in showers are a great accessible solution for everyone who relies on them in their daily life. With their high degree of comfort, showers with a floor-level entry also offer an ideal opportunity for everyone who prefers a lot of space when showering to incorporate a little wellness moment into their everyday life or to enjoy a refreshing shower - either alone or as a couple.
Floor-level Shower Trays vs. Tiled Walk-in Showers
Walk-in showers can generally be installed in one of two ways:
1. Walk-in shower tray
A walk-in shower tray can be embedded in the floor and flush with it. Duravit offers different sizes of shower trays so that each person's individual needs and preferences can be met and the existing structural conditions can be accommodated. Floor-level showers with a shower tray can also be retrofitted during a remodel under certain conditions. You will find these high-quality shower trays in a wide variety of designs in the Duravit product range.
2. Tiled shower floor
Alternatively, there is also the option of installing a floor-level shower using a floor element that can be tiled and which has a drain. Because it has a slight slope, the water runs to the center drain. Another alternative for a shower enclosure without a shower tray is to install a sloping floor that directs water to a channel or wall drain. Tiling is a good solution for people who want their bathroom to have a uniform appearance and want a seamless transition from wall to floor for a beautiful overall design.
Compared to tiled floor elements with a central floor drain and sloping floors with a shower channel or a wall drain, floor-level shower trays have the advantage of being very easy to clean and to install. The reason for this is that they don't have any joints, where dirt tends to accumulate, and this makes them much easier to seal in comparison. Depending on the material, floor-level shower trays also have a comparatively warmer feel and not only ensure a more pleasant sensation against your skin than simple tiles, but also provide a sure footing without the risk of slipping. High-quality floor-level shower trays can be found in our Duravit product range in a wide variety of designs and sizes.
Walk-in Showers With a Wall vs. Without a Wall
Walk-in showers without side walls
Walk-in showers without any glass or other splash guards work better in larger bathrooms because of the space required. This is because certain minimum distances should be maintained between them and other nearby bathroom elements like the bathtub, the vanity or the bidet.
Walk-in showers with a wall
Walk-in showers with a glass wall or another type of splash guard take up less space and are the much more frequently used design. Which in turn means that walk-in showers can also work even in a small bathroom. The side walls naturally help to contain any splashing water. Alternatively, walk-in showers can also be installed with a pony wall or a wall that is framed all the way to the ceiling. This type of installation is not as common but one of the advantages it provides is additional privacy protection.
Tip: Matching faucets for your walk-in shower, such as Duravit's all-in-one Shower Systems solution, will make your showering experience complete.
Duravit walk-in shower trays from our Tempano, D-Code, Starck and Stonetto series can be installed either flush with the floor, partially embedded, or on top of the floor; the type of installation depends on the structural conditions and individual preferences:
Tempano series
Seamless, easy to care for and comfortable. This is where modern bathroom design meets flexibility in terms of planning and installation, so you'll find the optimal solution for almost every new build or remodeling project. Our sanitary acrylic walk-in shower trays from the Tempano series will impress you with their generous sense of space and high drainage capacity. A major advantage is the integrated seal for secure installation in the bathroom. The optional, transparent anti-slip coating (anti-slip class C) prevents slipping and provides extra grip on all Duravit shower trays. Because we care about your safety!
Inspired by matte stone surfaces washed smooth by water, our Stonetto series is made of our DuraSolid® material, making it scratch-resistant and generally very robust. The matte finish also makes it warm and soft to the touch. In addition, DuraSolid® meets class B slip resistance for a secure footing - without the need for any additional anti-slip coating. To make it possible to combine your walk-in shower with as many bathroom designs as possible, our walk-in shower trays come in a wide variety of light and dark stone colors. The high-quality material that our trays are made from is colored throughout and offers years of showering comfort for everyone who wants a natural, authentic design.
